How to Get Contracts in Monster Hunter Outlanders

Every way to get Standard and Featured Contracts in Monster Hunter Outlanders, what they cost in Rutacoin, and which currencies do what. No account needed.

Quick answer

A contract is one pull. Standard Contracts work on the Beginner, Standard and Rotating banners, and Featured Contracts work on the Featured banner. Either type costs 150 Rutacoin. You also get them from quests, ranks, seasons and exchanges.

Players often complain that there are too many currencies in this game. Here's what each one does, so you can tell what you actually have. The figures come from GameWith's guide, based on game information from October 29. We haven't checked them in-game, so compare with your own client.

Which contract goes where?

  • Standard Contract: one pull on the Beginner, Standard or Rotating banner.
  • Featured Contract: one pull on the Featured banner.

GameWith doesn't say when the Research and Co-op limits reset. You earn Standard Supply Vouchers by pulling, and the pity calculator includes all these conversions.

What each currency is for

Rutacoin

Pocket Gamer reports that it comes from regular play. It buys contracts and Energy refills. Spending it on Energy competes with spending it on pulls. Five refills cost 850 Rutacoin, the price of 5.67 contracts. The rank planner shows that trade.

Crimson Plume Coins

The currency sold for real money. The App Store lists packs from 60 coins at $0.99 to 6,480 coins at $99.99. We haven't confirmed how these convert into Rutacoin, so we won't quote a dollar price per pull yet.

Research Points

Game8 says there are two kinds. Green Research Points come from requests, Research Studies in Free Hunt, captures and melding, and they're spent in the Research Point Shop and on meals and crafting. Yellow Research Points come from gaining Research Levels and Proof of Mastery, and they unlock the Build, Glider, Survival and Gathering research trees.

GameWith lists an exchange of 5,000 Research Points per Standard Contract, up to 18. The amounts suggest that's the green kind, though GameWith doesn't say which.

Co-op Points

Earned from multiplayer. They buy Standard Contracts at 1,000 each, up to 9.

Rumbling Gear

Earned from the Rumbling Furnace, even without paying. It buys Featured Contracts, up to 6 a season.

A simple order of priority

This is our own suggestion, not a tested optimum:

  1. Take what's free first, then spend Standard Contracts on the Beginner banner in ten-pulls, which are reported to cost 8 rather than 10: Adventurer Rank rewards, weekly quests, Free Hunt first clears and event rewards.
  2. Use the capped exchanges before they reset, since Standard Supply Vouchers are limited to 5 contracts a month per type.
  3. Decide on one banner target. Mixing contracts across banners rarely reaches soft pity. See the pity guide.
