Monster Hunter Outlanders Beginner Guide

New to Monster Hunter Outlanders? Pick the right server, spend your first contracts well, handle the daily reset, and avoid the mistakes that cost pulls.

Spoiler-freeUpdated Sourced from the official notices and published guides listed below

Quick answer

Pick your server carefully, because data can’t transfer. Spend your first Standard Contracts on the Beginner banner, where pull 50 guarantees an SSR adventurer. Do daily requests before the 5 AM server reset, and pick one banner target rather than spreading contracts around.

This guide covers decisions that are hard to undo. It doesn't cover combat, where you'll learn more from playing. Players say the game piles on menus and currencies early, so it helps to know which ones matter on day one.

1. Choose your server carefully

On Garena's servers, the launch notice says data is separate by region and can't be transferred. You can't team up, add friends or join squads across servers. If you plan to play with friends, agree on a server before you start. See servers and regions.

You can log in with Google, Apple, Facebook, Garena or as a guest. A guest account is the riskiest choice if you ever change phones, so we'd link a real account early. That's our own advice, not an official warning.

2. Spend your first contracts on the Beginner banner

Players mention a guide that says to pull on Standard before Beginner, and others have asked which is right. Here's how they compare using the official notice:

BeginnerStandard
SSR rate per pull0.6%0.6%, rising from pull 74
Latest possible SSRPull 50Pull 90
Guaranteed SSR can be a companion? No, it's an adventurerYes
Chance of an SSR adventurer by pull 50100%Under 15%
Maximum pulls50No limit

The Beginner banner's guarantee is far closer, and it's also cheaper: Fextralife and another guide report that a ten-pull there costs 8 contracts, so all 50 pulls cost 40. Both banners use Standard Contracts, so we'd fill Beginner first, using ten-pulls. The one reason to go the other way is the Standard banner's 300-pull choice, which is a long way off.

You can check where you stand with the pity calculator.

3. Pick one limited banner, and stick to it

A limited banner gets dramatically better after pull 74. Fifty pulls gives you a 14.82% chance of the pickup, while 80 pulls gives you 51.03%. Spreading the same contracts across two banners is often the worst option, so decide who you want first. Use the pull or save planner if you're torn.

4. Build a daily routine around the reset

The daily reset is at 05:00 server time. Each day, in this order:

  1. Finish daily requests up to 120 Activity, for up to 3,600 Adventurer EXP.
  2. Spend your Energy on Hunt Requests.
  3. Work on Free Hunt research for each monster you've unlocked.

When you run out of things that give EXP, you've probably reached the day's limit. That's how the game is paced, and our rank guide explains the gates you'll meet.

5. Don't spend Rutacoin without thinking

Rutacoin buys contracts at 150 each, and also Energy refills. The first refill costs 50, but the fifth costs 300. Before you buy, decide which you want more. The contracts guide has every source and price.

6. Keep track of your gear

App Store reviewers say it's hard to see which gear they already own, and they end up crafting duplicates. If that sounds familiar, the gear tracker warns you before you make another copy.

7. Match your element to the monster

Each monster has a top element weakness, and bringing the right one is the simplest upgrade you can make. Anjanath is weak to Water, for example, and Barroth to Fire. Look any monster up on the weakness chart, or use the build planner to see who and what matches.

8. Check your settings

If the game runs hot or stutters, turn the graphics down first. Our lag and crash guide lists the official device requirements. If you use a controller, the game supports one, but at least one player reports the tutorials only show touch controls. See PC and controller support.

What we'd skip for now

  • Reroll guides. We found them mostly on promotional accounts, and we couldn't find players asking about them. Whether rerolling is worth your time depends on your account and server, and we have no tested method to offer.
  • Tier lists. Many exist, and at least one fan wiki openly calls its list a provisional estimate. Treat them as opinions for now.
  • Account or currency sellers. We don't link to them, and you could lose your account.
